Just yesterday I was speaking to several single women from Wine Country Connection from ages 24-68 and asked them, “What do you look for in a man?” Even though there was such a huge difference in ages, ethnicity, and backgrounds; the answers were 80% the same! Just like the movie with Mel Gibson, What Women Want, I am going to give you an insight on what the sexy singles of Sonoma County are looking for in their prince charming. Ladies, back me up on this if it is true. Men, follow the words of the great American philosopher, Michael Jordan, and “Just Do It!”
The three specific characteristics that a lot of women are looking for in a quality man are: an active body, an active mind, and an active sense of humor.
Sounds like a lot of activity going on. Well guess what men; the lack of activity is one of the complaints that women have of our species. And lets face it, we can improve in one (if not all three) categories. Well what to do, what to do. I live by the saying, “If you keep doing what you are doing, you will keep getting what you are getting.” Let’s make a few changes shall we. Here are some tips:
- Be active. How some like to sit at home watching television alone is not the coolest conversation to impress a woman. Get out and do something that you have wanted to do. Join a free activities group. My favorite is www.Meetup.com. You can meet like minded individuals that range from a comforting quilt club to the exhilarating world of hand gliding. What are some exciting activities you would love to partake in? Go out and find it then do it. If not now, when?
- Have an active mind. An active mind is a great asset to have when having conversations (and we all know that women love to talk). Be curious and ask her questions other than, “So, where are you from?” Find something about her that intrigues you. It may be a piece of jewelry, her outfit, hair, etc. The secret combination is to compliment and then inquire. “That is a beautiful ring/necklace/bracelet. What attracted you to buy it because you have exquisite taste?” Talk about life and experiences while keeping it positive. No one wants to hear how you were dumped by your last five girlfriends. A woman needs to hear your old girlfriend stories like a fish needs a bicycle.
- Sense of humor. WOW! I have seen some of my most hideous looking guy friends hook up with some lovely ladies because the guys were funny. If you can make her laugh, you can win her heart. Women love a man that can make them laugh. I think that is the only reason my wife tolerates me. I am not saying that men need to be a professional comedian, but you can learn to be funny. I learned humor and so can you. Watch Comedy Central. Be a student of comedy and take notes (sounds dorky, but it works). I love the comedy of Chris Rock and Carlos Mencia. Who is your favorite comedian? Watch or listen to them. Or, you can always take a date to a comedy club and let them do all the work. Lastly, do not mistake being funny with insulting other people. That is just mean. Women love a man that can laugh at himself. Show that you are a confident man that has made a few mistakes and can laugh about it. Then just watch the women fall in love with you.
Alright Men, you have a few tips that will help you get one step closer to understanding women. Be active in you life, your thoughts, and laugh. If you can do these three then you will have a much better chance at spending quality time with 80% of the women out there. Good luck.
